- Soren’s Graduation and Stacye’s Big 6-0 party
Consensus Decision: The Meeting agreed: (a) to authorize Stacye to use $200 of the BHF entertainment budget for Sue and Bruce’s band to play for this party; and (b) that the band would turn off the amplification by 11 pm.
During the discussion of this item, the following views were expressed:
- The budget allocation hasn’t been used for a while. This is a good opportunity to have a community party; it will create liveliness for the community; $200 is a small amount.
- Having a party at which Sue and Bruce play is a great idea, but should the BHF budget be used for individual birthday parties? Is it sufficient if the entire community is invited? This will create a precedent where each member could ask for funds from the community for personal reasons, and there might not be enough funds to go around. This would lead to unequal treatment of members. Why not instead pass the hat around and ask individual members and invitees to contribute instead?
- Let’s not be afraid of precedents. People won’t mind if there are not enough funds to go around for each one’s event.
- We can come up with a community-wide reason to fund this celebration, like kickstarting the summer season and livening things up at BHF.
- Since $200 is very small amount to pay for the band, let’s allocate $200 and also pass the hat around.
Stacye also asked about possible housing for out-of towners, (Thursday through Sunday night). Niki and Ray each volunteered one bed in their respective houses.
